Had a bit of a trauma this morning – Lulu (our parrot) got her foot caught in a hook on the back of one of the kitchen doors and was screaming and hurting her wings trying to free herself. Emily and I rushed to her and tried to help her but she was in such a panic it was hard to hold her still or do anything with her. Eventually, she managed to free herself; she’s OK except for three cuts on one foot and one on the other, bless her heart. And some wounded parrot pride. Emily dissolved in the panic and ended up sobbing in a heap on the floor while I was frantically trying to get Lulu’s foot – bless her heart too.
Anyway, a few minutes later everything was calm; Lulu flew back to her toy rope in the dining room, had tickles, had her feet inspected, preened and was back to mischief ASAP; Emily’s sobs subsided into calm once she realised Lulu’s injuries weren’t serious and the hooks had been removed from the door to stop her doing it again. Mind you, less than an hour later, she was back in the same place hanging from the top of the (closed) door, so ….she’s not the brightest bird in the bunch, clearly
So: everyone felt a bit wobbly and no more work was done today. Not officially, at least, although Emily did spend a lot of time this afternoon working on Paintshop Pro again. Meanwhile, I’ve been pondering introducing some kind of “ticksheet” a la Helen’s system. Don’t know yet quite how to tweak it to work for us, but it sounds like one of the best ideas I’ve heard for keeping a schedule without keeping a schedule 🙂
